Maserati Levante (2016 - 2024) – MPG and running costs

The diesel powered Levante is rated at 39.2mpg - competitive for the sector, but not class-leading. The thirsty 25.9mpg petrol V6 doesn’t impress either, with the V8 Trofeo worse still

  • Sublime engine in top spec; charismatic; distinctive styling
  • Chassis feels archaic in comparison to more rounded rivals

Maserati’s decision to only offer the Levante as a diesel model in the UK at launch may not have come as a surprise considering the tiny percentage of buyers who choose petrol power in this class. Later on in its production run, the more athletic and characterful 3-litre V6 petrol was made available to UK buyers, as well as the range-topping 3.8-litre V8 of the Trofeo.

The diesel and its 39.2mpg is about right for the class, falling short of class leaders, but not being totally left behind either. Despite Maserati’s adamant remarks of the diesel being engineered in Italy, we can’t help but notice the similarities between it and sister company Jeep’s use of a very similar unit in the Grand Cherokee. Opt for the V6 petrol and mpg drops to the mid 20s, with the Trofeo unlikely to offer much above the quoted 17.8mpg.
