New Audi Q2 review – Is Audi’s smallest SUV worthy of the premium badge? - Design

Audi’s most compact SUV is as impressive as it probably needed to be, but no more

  • Quality interior, impressive engines
  • Only competent handling and not particularly exciting

The Q2 represents a departure from Audi’s current design language, shamelessly aiming at a more youthful crowd. Being an all-new model, designers had the opportunity to push the boat out a little more than usual, so although it is very much still an Audi, it also looks fresh and different to most of the current Audi range.

Under the myriad colour and specification options, the overall design is good, but it is very spec-sensitive, swaying between chunky and aggressive to slab sided and bland depending on colour and wheel choices. On top of the usual S-line models, Audi also offers different front end treatments depending on SE or Sport trims, multiple wheel options and an R8-style coloured panel on the c-pillar which does much to alter the overall aesthetic.

First edition cars are also available, combining the sportier S-line bumpers with the two-tone bodywork of the standard cars and 19-inch wheels. These models look the most aggressive; yet also don some questionable decals. Regardless, the Q2 is a distinctive and interesting looking compact SUV in a sea of bland and repetitive options.
