Vauxhall Mokka review - high on kit, low on thrills - Design

Vauxhall Mokka sells well but key rivals are better

Evo rating
RRP
from £17,590
  • Roomy, well-built, quiet 'Whisper Diesel' engine
  • Poor ride, inert steering, noisy petrol engines, can be pricey

Design

It’s a fairly tidy piece of design, the Mokka, looking just tall enough to make it different from the rest of the Vauxhall range without coming across as bloated. The wheelbase is a shade over 2.5 metres, which is pretty short and leads to a sizeable front overhang when viewing the car in profile.

With the Mokka X, even the cheapest models come on 18-inch alloy wheels, so it at least never looks under-wheeled. You can have the Mokka in some fairly loud colours which is refreshing in a world of greys and blacks - choices include Orange Rock, Boracay Blue or Deep Espresso (yes, brown) – although every paint hue bar solid Flare Red is a cost option, of either £275, £545 or £1015.

If we have one criticism here, it’s that the Mokka doesn’t have the level of personalisation that a lot of cars in this sector offer – just look at the Captur or the Kia Soul for evidence.
