Porsche 911 GT2: GT2 hits the Ring
The lightweight animal that is the next Porsche GT2 has been spotted testing at the Nurburgring
The launch of the wild GT2 is not far away, with its official debut expected to be at the Frankfurt show in September.
Sometimes dismissed as being simply a two-wheel-drive Turbo, this time around Porsche is keen that its most expensive 911 is something very special.
Expect 500bhp-plus from the revised twin-turbo 3.6-litre flat-six, an official 0-62mph time of around 3.5secs and a top speed north of 200mph.
We’ve heard Porsche engineers have managed to achieve a dramatic weight reduction, with around 100kg being lost compared with the Turbo, dropping the kerb weight to around 1485kg. That means a power-to-weight ratio of around 340bhp per ton, so it's probably just as well that for the first time the GT2 will come with traction control.
The last GT2 cost £27K more than the Turbo, so the 997 version is going to be one expensive 911. Expect a list price of around £130,000 when the GT2 finally arrives in showrooms later this year.
