2019 BMW 7-series review – more talented than its image might portray - MPG and running costs
The 7 is not as 'cool' as an SUV, but its recipe is one with lots of appeal, and is just better than a big luxo-SUV could ever be
MPG and running costs
Be sensible and the big 7 is perfectly efficient, with 730d and 740d models straddling 40mpg on the new WLTP cycle. The new 745e has a combined rating of 122.8mpg on its plug-in cycle, but based on the driving scenario, that number will likely vary as much as the pound after a no-deal Brexit.
Petrols are less impressive on paper, with the 740i barely cracking 30mpg, while the 750i is rated at 25.2mpg. In fact, over a week of mixed driving, we barely cracked 20mpg, although the 750i’s infectious V8 rumble might have had something to do with that.
