Goodwood Festival of Speed 2015 preview
Ferrari 488 GTB joins stars of F1 and Le Mans in Goodwood Hillclimb
The Ferrari 488 GTB will make its UK dynamic debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, joining five current F1 teams, Mazda’s 787B Group C racer and stars of the Michelin Supercar Run as headline attendees. The event will also play host to a new drift category and will feature an expanded F1 paddock.
Though the 488 GTB’s hill climb run won’t be timed, it will provide the UK public with its first opportunity hear the soundtrack of Ferrari’s 661bhp turbocharged V8. The Italian marque will also demonstrate the 1034bhp LaFerrari FXX K, and several other key cars including its F10 2010 F1 racer.
A regular Ferrari LaFerrari will also be present, alongside and ex-Senna Toleman-Hart TG184-2, thanks to premium car specialist Prindiville. The LaFerrari itself is for sale, at an eye-watering £2.3million. In the revamped F1 paddock will be Red Bull, Williams, McLaren and current World Champions Mercedes, with each running a car up the famous 1.6-mile hill.
Another fan favourite will be Mazda and its iconic 787B. The 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans winner produces 700bhp from its innovative rotary engine at a spine-tingling 9000rpm, and will be accompanied by some of the world's fastest racing cars in the Group C class. Goodwood also provides fans with the chance to hear the thunderous sounds of NASCARs, as several US-based cars are transported to the UK for the weekend's event.
Several major manufacturers will present concepts and road cars on their own stands. Infiniti and Citroen's standalone DS brand will bring along their wares, while Nissan is set to present its follow-up to the insane Juke-R - the Juke-R Nismo. Alpine will also be on display at Goodwood, with the all-new Celebration concept.
Toyota has promised to bring along a selection of GT86s, each wearing a livery inspired by a famous car in Toyota's racing and rallying heritage. Peugeot is also playing the heritage car, albeit with a brand-new 308 GTi, the latest in the firm's long line of GTi-badged hot hatchbacks.
Add a whole selection of exotic supercars from the Michelin Supercar Run, a forest rally stage, Derek Bell’s career race cars and no less than seven Mercedes 300 SLRs – in attendance to celebrate 60 years since Sir Stirling Moss’ 1955 Mille Miglia win – and the 22nd running of the Goodwood Festival of Speed could be the best yet.
