BMW M235i review - not an M2, but still entertaining - MPG and running costs
One of BMW's best
MPG and running costs
Despite the levels of performance on offer, the M235i shouldn't break the bank with its running costs.
Economy is perfectly reasonable for a car with a five-second 0-62 dash – 34.9mpg in the manual coupe, and 33.2mpg in the manual convertible. That results in CO2 figures of 189 and 199g/km respectively. Vehicle Excise Duty is relatively hefty, costing £485 in the first year, but that settles down to £255 per year thereafter.
The convertible's insurance group hasn't yet been confirmed, but the coupe receives a 39E rating in the current 50-band system. BMW was a pioneer of fixed-price servicing with the MINI; a service that has subsequently spread to the rest of the BMW range. The M235i costs a little more to service than a regular 2-series, but £550 gets you BMW's Service Inclusive package – 5 years or 50,000 miles of comprehensive service cover plus MOT Protect, covering MOT failures should they happen in that period.
Service Inclusive Plus covers all that, plus maintenance items such as brake pads, brake discs and windscreen wipers, for £2370 over the same time or distance period.
