Porsche 911 GT3 RS 2015 review - Faster than a Ferrari 458 Speciale? Watch to find out - Performance and 0-62mph time

Breathtakingly exciting and the most communicative 991 yet, the latest GT3 RS is a triumph

  • Pace; grip; best steering yet in a 991; motorsport-inspired styling
  • Engine lacks the last 500rpm flourish of the regular GT3; PDK-only

Small spec sheet differences separate the 991 GT3 RS from the regular GT3, though as with most RS models it still translates to a distinctly different on-road character.

Peak power is produced at the same engine speed – 8250rpm – but the larger capacity realises 493bhp rather than 468bhp. Torque too is higher, at 339lb ft rather than 324lb ft.

A modest weight reduction has been achieved through polycarbonate windows, carbonfibre front wings, a thin magnesium roof and a polyurethane rear skirt. Overall it drops 10kg from the regular GT3’s 1430kg mass, also contributes to the extra performance.

With this, and despite the effects of extra downforce – up to 345kg at 125mph – it all has a small effect on the 0-62mph time, which drops from 3.5 seconds to 3.3, while top speed increases marginally to 196mph, from 193mph.
