New 992 Porsche 911 Carrera T revealed

The new Carrera T brings more sound, less weight and an increase in engagement to the entry-level 992 911

Porsche has given its 992-generation 911 the Carrera T treatment, bringing weight saving measures, more standard kit and a standard seven-speed manual transmission to the mix. Placed between the base 911 Carrera and Carrera S models, the 992 911 Carrera T is priced from £98,500.

Since the namemplate’s revival in 2017 with the 991.2 Carrera T, Porsche has applied the same formula to the 718 Cayman, Boxster and more recently, the Macan SUV. Five years on, the Touring has made a return to the Porsche 911 range with the 992-generation, and the package is a familiar one.

As before, the Carrera’s 3-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six remains unchanged, with outputs standing at 380bhp and 332lb ft of torque. What’s new though, is the inclusion of a standard seven-speed manual transmission, previously available only on Carrera S upwards, with Porsche Torque Vectoring and a mechanical locking differential also standard. Porsche quotes a 4.5sec 0-62mph sprint and a 181mph top speed, marginally behind the figures for the ordinary PDK-equipped Carrera.

Unique to the Carrera T are elements such as lightweight glass and a lightweight battery, with a reduction in sound insulation and the removal of the rear seats all designed to reduce its kerb weight. The result is a 35kg drop in weight over the standard PDK-equipped Carrera, bringing the total to 1470kg. A byproduct of these weight savings is an increase in interior sound, something that Porsche has capitalised on with the inclusion of a standard Sports exhaust system.

Also standard is the desirable Sport Chrono package, with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and a 10mm drop in ride height part of the package. Though not available on the ordinary Carrera, rear-axle steering can be optioned on the Carrera T for an additional cost.

Design tweaks are subtle, with staggered Titanium Grey 20 and 21-inch Carrera S wheels, Agate Grey exterior mirrors, decals and a windscreen tint strip and gloss black exhaust tips the only notable changes. Buyers can opt for solid, metallic and ‘special’ colours from the standard colour palette, with the Paint to Sample programme open to some lucky buyers.

Inside, the GT sports steering wheel and Sports Seats Plus are standard, but lightweight full buckets, extended leather, contrasting interior trim and more can be optioned at a cost. The 992 Porsche 911 Carrera T is available to order now, priced from £98,500.
