Porsche has doubled the size of its motorsport facility at Weissach in response to a growth in business. The new Motorsport Centre, which has taken a year to construct, boasts four interconnected buildings housing workshops, race-car production, logistics and a seven-truck loading bay. There’s also a separate three-storey admin block. The centre will employ 210 staff.
The workshops are split into several different areas, for the servicing of Cup and customer race cars, for the RS Spyder sports car prototype, the 911 GT3 RSR, and for special projects. There’s also a dedicated composites workshop, a hydraulics room and a pre-assembly area, together with engine and transmission departments with their own measurement and testing facilities.
Prior to the opening of the Motorsport Centre, Porsche Motorsport was producing 250 race cars a year, a number that should soar in the new facility.
