VW Eco Racer

Biggest surprise at the Tokyo motor show came from VW in the shape of the rear-drive, mid-engined Eco Racer. With a carbonfibre body, racing springs and dampers and a 'race mode' that sharpens the steering and the DSG gearbox's shifts, it's certainly got the Racer part covered. The Eco prefix applies to the engine - a four-pot 1.5-litre turbo-diesel that produces a solid 134bhp at 4000rpm and 184lb ft of torque between 1900 and 3750rpm.
