The Chevrolet Lacettis triumph again as the end of the BTCC season edges closer
It was another fantastic weekend for the Chevrolet Lacettis as the British Touring Car Championship visited Silverstone. But it’s still Colin Turkington and Fabrizio Giovanardi fighting it out to lift the drivers’ trophy as the season edges towards its finale in five weeks time.
The two could only muster up a pair of podium places between them at Northants, though, with the front-wheel-drive Lacettis dominating. They managed a 1-2-3 in the first race, with Mat Jackson victorious again and Jason Plato and James Nash following behind. Plato took the victory in race two while Jackson picked up another win in the day’s closing race.
Jackson’s been in fine form, and took a place on all three podiums for the second round running after his success at Knockhill a fortnight ago. Former F1 driver Johnny Herbert made his BTCC debut in a Team Dynamics Honda Civic, but had a mixed afternoon, picking up points for an eighth-place finish in race two but retiring in race three after contact with Plato.
The attention at round nine, Rockingham, will be on Northern Irish Turkington and Italian Giovanardi as they go toe-to-toe for the title. They are separated by 11 points after Silverstone, a slight increase for Turkington who is aiming to stop Giovanardi’s attempts to land an historic three trophies on the trot.
