Silverstone Classic
An abundance of classic racers and rare supercars gather at Silverstone
This weekend saw the outgoing British GP circuit host Silverstone Classic. It's an event quickly growing in stature, with a whole host of classic cars and legendary drivers recreating classic races of the past.
Highlights included the David Leslie Memorial Trophy race for classic touring cars (everything from Capris and Camaros to Primeras and Mondeos), a Grand Prix Masters race (some real legends from 1966 to ’73) and the rather splendid Pre 1963 GT race, with Aston Martin’s rare Project 212 Le Mans car and a host of multi-million pound Ferrari 250s, in GTO and ‘Breadvan’ GT flavour.
A huge crowd descended on the Northants circuit, packing it out over the weekend and arriving in an abundance of impressive and tasty stuff. A number of car clubs assembled themselves in the track’s outskirts, with fascinating gaggles of Renault Alpines, Lancias, Maseratis, Porsches and more making a wander round the burger vans last much longer than anticipated.
