ABT VW Scirocco

Tuned Volkswagens begin to surface: ABT offers 237bhp

The VW Scirocco is beginning to attract the attention of tuners and tweaking firms, who are eager to dose the coupe with more power to back up its looks. After the tuned Police car we saw last week, comes this - a Scirocco tuned by ABT, a company not shy of producing its own take on Audis and VWs.

First up, it's sprinkled some extra aggression onto the body with new bumpers, side skirts, two spoilers (on the roof and boot lid) and four tail pipes. Combined with the bright green paintwork of one of the car in the main picture, it all adds up to a car that resembles the VW Iroc concept much more than the stock Scirocco.

There are also new wheels, ranging from 18-20in. Under the skin, there's sports suspension, lowering the car by 30mm, and the option of sports brakes. Power also gets a shove north, with the whole of the VW's engine range getting involved. The 1.4-litre petrol rises from 158 to 197bhp, the 2-litre goes from 197 to 237bhp and the diesel even gets a boost, going from 138 to 168bhp.

The tweaks are available (in ABT's German homeland, at least) from January 2009, starting from 5990 euros - or around £5k.
