Porsche reaches a milestone, Audi RS6 spotted testing and heart-warming Lotus story

Porsche has just produced the 100,000th 997, a little over three years after the first one rolled off the Zuffenhausen production line. The milestone car was a manual Carrera S in Guards Red.
AN AUDI RS6 prototype has been spotted testing. The RS6 was expected to be powered by a tuned version of the S6’s V10 but we are now hearing that it might use an all-new V10 version of the RS4’s high-revving V8 instead. All will be revealed at this September’s Frankfurt show. What we do know is that the RS6 will be available in both four-door saloon and ‘Avant’ estate body styles. The new model is not expected until March next year, ahead of a UK release later in 2008.
THIS'LL warm the cockles of your heart. A member of the Lotus Europa Forum (BigSi) developed problems with his health midway through restoring his S3 Turbo Esprit. He tried to continue the restoration but simply couldn’t, so in secret the rest of the forum snaffled BigSi’s Esprit away and then spent over 2000 man-hours restoring it to immaculate condition. BigSi was, needless to say, pretty surprised and emotional when it was presented to him at a Club Lotus trackday five weeks later.
