New Volvo C70

Volvo unveils its updated C70 coupe convertible with bold new look

Volvo has updated its C70 coupe convertible, with an attempt to move it more upmarket.

The big change is stylistically, with a bolder new front end that’s designed to move the C70 in line with the larger cars in the Volvo range (the XC60, S80 and new S60 saloon) rather than the smaller, cheaper ones such as the C30 and S40.

Indeed, much styling inspiration comes from the S60 concept that was at the Detroit motor show, with bigger, swept up headlights and more prominent grille and air intakes.

There are also tweaks inside, with a redesigned instrument panel and comfier seats.

The engine range remains as before, with a pair of diesels – a 134bhp/236lb ft 2-litre and 178bhp/295lb ft 2.4-litre – and two petrols, a 168bhp/170lb ft 2.4-litre and the range-topping T5 – the 2.5-litre 5-cylinder that’s shared with Ford’s hot Focuses, which slots into the C70 in 227bhp/236lb ft tune.

Full details of the new Volvo C70 will be revealed when it joins the hoards of new metal being shown at the Frankfurt motor show in two weeks. We’ll be there reporting on all the goings on, which you can preview here.
