Mitsubishi Evo: Evo X in the metal

Mitsubishi has shown what the Lancer Evo X will look like next year with its concept Prototype X

Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X concept

Although the full-on production version won’t be unveiled until the Tokyo motor show this October, the Prototype X concept car pictured here is, bar a few detail differences, what you’ll get if you put down a deposit for the all-new Lancer Evo X.

Expected in the UK in January 2008, the Evo X should have a minimum of 300bhp from its new turbocharged 2-litre MIVEC engine. The engine block is aluminium rather than cast iron and weighs 20kg less than its predecessor, and because the exhaust is now on the bulkhead side of the engine the whole thing can sit lower in the chassis, lowering the car's centre of gravity.

Although it will come with a six-speed manual as standard, the new Evo will, for the first time, have the option of a paddle-shift transmission.
