Mercedes-Benz Motorsport celebrates 75 years of its racing car carrying lorries
It’s been a fairly big week for Mercedes-Benz Motorsport. A new Formula 1 team, the announcement of its lead driver, rumours of a certain M Schumacher driving next year, and now the biggie: 75 years of Merc racing car carriers. The actual anniversary centres around the three-quarter century of Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrow racers, but the brand’s decided to shout about the transport that has taken the cars to their relevant races over the years. Here’s a gallery of the three Merc has picked out as key – from the earliest Lo2750 from the 1930s to the modern-day (and in this company, rather characterless) Actros lorry that will be an ever-present during the 2010 F1 season. We’re rather taken by the ‘50s Blue Wonder, though. It curiously manages to work styling cues from the classic 300SL Gullwing into a commercial vehicle, and looks pretty good.
