Hyundai HED-6
Hyundai teases information on its new 175bhp 1.6 turbo SUV concept
Hyundai has released a preview sketch of its new HED-6 concept car due to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March. It hints at the design direction and possible performance of future models.
The HED-6 is powered by a 175bhp 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, showing potential for a performance variant of Hyundai’s next SUV, whilst the engine could find itself used for other applications within the Hyundai range.
The unit could be a watershed moment for Hyundai by breaking the 100bhp/litre barrier and potentially lead the way to a series of performance orientated models. If dropped into the Hyundai Coupe’s replacement or the i20 hatchback, Hyundai could have a bargain firecracker on its hands.
Designed at the company’s European Design headquarters in Germany, the HED-6 has been penned to look bold and dramatic and suggests a brave departure from Hyundai’s current line up. The show car will sport 21in, mirror-polished alloys and LED daytime running lights and will be finished in specially developed ‘Ice Blue’ exterior paint designed to show off the striking lines of the show car. There is also a specially sculpted ‘Lexan’ plastic rear window replacing standard glass.
The car will be on show in Geneva next month, with full coverage right here on evo.co.uk.
