Gordon Murray Technology consultancy to join Automotive business to form Gordon Murray Group

Professor Gordon Murray will become executive chairman, with Phillip Lee as CEO

Gordon Murray has announced the creation of a new Gordon Murray Technology (GMT) consultancy business that will join the Automotive (GMA) business to become the Gordon Murray Group (GMG). Professor Gordon Murray himself will take the role of Executive Chairman, with Phillip Lee appointed CEO.

The new technology business will integrate GMA’s existing design and electronics divisions to create the full-scale consulting firm for OEMs that cover almost every part of the development process, from design to manufacturing. GMT is already consulting on one existing electric SUV project, and is in advanced discussions of a full scale development partnership with another.

Professor Gordon Murray, Executive Chairman, Gordon Murray Group said on the announcement of the expansion, ‘Our major growth opportunity now lies with Gordon Murray Technology. We have a best-in-class highly talented team, capable of working with a global client base, transforming electric vehicles, connectivity and, eventually, autonomous transportation. There are innovative projects already in the pipeline and we have plans to further increase our influence on global vehicle development and transformative manufacturing processes with the latest incarnation of iStream.’

‘People will reconsider what electric vehicles are capable of and I am looking forward to personally overseeing these fascinating projects.’

By splitting the business into these two defined sections, it will also allow the automotive business to purely focus on its own projects. With the T.50 nearly at the end of its development process, and the T.50s and T.33 projects already sold out, Murray and his team are already working on future projects, including its first all-electric models.

Phillip Lee has been appointed GMG CEO, and comes from a financial background, having previously held the roles of CFO both at GMA and Lotus Cars before that.

Both divisions will be based at the new GMG campus currently under construction in Surrey. The new base is due for completion in 2024, but alongside its growth in the UK is also in the first processes of scouting for a base in the USA.
