Ford Focus RS laps the Ring
Ford laps Focus RS around the Ring to try and beat the Mégane R26.R
Ford has taken its 300bhp hot hatch around the Nürburgring.
The Ford Focus RS has been threatening to duff up the Renaultsport Mégane R26.R for some time, the latter holding the front-wheel-drive record of the Ring’s North Loop, a location that’s firmly established itself as the performance car litmus test.
France’s finest needn’t panic yet, though – its 8min 17sec time that’s proudly emblazoned on its plastic rear windows is still the Nordschleife benchmark, the Focus RS lapping at 8min 26sec at the hands of the brilliantly named Horst von Saurma-Jeltsch. He’s the editor of German magazine Sport Auto and a bloke with top experience of throwing new sports cars around the Ring.
The attempted assault on the R26.R was a joint effort between Sport Auto and Ford, and we’d be surprised if they didn’t have another bash at it. The Focus does have 73bhp more than the Mégane, after all…
