Audi R8 review – MPG and running costs

Fuel consumption is not a strong point, but then long runs can squeeze over 25mpg, which realistically is about what a supersaloon is able to achieve

With supercar performance comes supercar running costs. Audi claims 22mpg and 21mpg on the combined cycle for the V10 RWD and Quattro respectively, both according to the WLTP regulations. With its shorter gear ratios and high downforce package, the GT RWD is the least efficient of all and scores 15mpg.

Our experience with an Audi R8 Spyder on the long term Fast Fleet indicates the figures for the standard car shouldn't be too wide of the mark in mixed driving – we averaged around 22mpg in the pre-facelift model. Recent drives in a Quattro coupe suggest the very latest R8s will also return low-to-mid 20s in a mix of motorway and B-road driving.

This is very much subject to usage and driving style though, and on spirited runs you're more likely to see figures in the teens – or lower should you venture on track, which owners of the GT RWD are more likely to do.

The standard warranty runs for three years or 60,000 miles. For £2555 Audi will sell you a five-year or 90,000 mile warranty. Audi recommends an oil change every 9000 miles with a more detailed inspection every 19,000 miles. If you frequently visit the track you may want to specify the R8's optional Michelin Cup 2 tyres, although replacements will be more costly.
