759bhp Aston Martin DBS 770 Ultimate Volante revealed

The limited-run DBS 770 Ultimate marks Aston Martin’s 110th anniversary, and now it’s gone topless

Just a few months since the reveal of the coupe, Aston Martin has released details on its DBS 770 Ultimate Volante, a limited-run special designed to celebrate the marque’s 110th year. As with the coupe, the model features a significant power bump alongside chassis tweaks and a host of design changes. Just 199 examples will be produced, with each one already accounted for.

As Aston Martin gears up for the launch of next-generation models such as the all-new DB12, it has launched the DBS 770 Ultimate as its most powerful series-production road car yet. Under its redesigned bonnet is the DBS’s familiar 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12, but an increase in turbo boost pressure alongside tweaks to the air intake and ignition systems liberate an additional 44bhp, bringing the total to 759bhp – torque remains at 664lb ft in order to keep the drivetrain in one piece.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via an ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox and a limited-slip differential, with the raised output providing a 3.6sec 0-62mph time, just a tenth down on the coupe – top speed stands at an identical 211mph.

Aston Martin’s engineers have also worked their magic on the chassis in order to improve stability and driver feedback. The steering column has received a new solid mounting method, with a thicker undertray and new front cross-member boosting overall torsional rigidity by 3 per cent. To ensure everything works in harmony, the adaptive damper system has also been recalibrated for these changes in order to improve body control at high speeds.

Exterior design is more aggressive than the standard car, with the front end featuring a redesigned bonnet with a Victor-inspired horse shoe vent for improved cooling. There’s also a new splitter at the front, incorporating redesigned lower intake surrounds, with a new rear diffuser also part of the package. The new diamond cut wheels are also specific to the 770 Ultimate, with 410mm front and 360mm rear carbon ceramic discs nestled within the arches.

The Aston Martin DBS 770 Ultimate Volante will hit the road in autumn, with just 199 examples set to roll out of Gaydon – 300 coupes will also be produced.
