Lewis Hamilton

The Formula 1 world champion pledges future to McLaren

Fresh from being crowned the youngest ever F1 world champion, Lewis Hamilton has said he wants to end his career in the sport at McLaren - the team who's supported him through the ranks since he was a boy.

He's spent today at the McLaren team base in Woking, Surrey at a welcome home event where he was congratulated on his triumph. "I've been thinking about my time with McLaren, all the landmark moment, just the whole journey - I love this team, and I ain't going nowhere" announced Lewis. "I don't know how long I'll be in F1 - but I want to see my career out with this team, and that's my plan."

Hamilton used his speech to acknowledge his mistake-ridden season that led to a hugely dramatic climax, in which the title very nearly slipped from his grasp. "It was easier to a certain extent last year. In the state of mind I was in, it was easier to just jump in the car and enjoy myself and go well and be consistent," he said. "I will analyse this year and really try next year to make less."
