Brabus and 9ff claim top speed records

The German tuning industry loves breaking top speed records, and a couple have recently been smashed.

Closely watched by the German Technical Inspection Agency, or TÜV, Brabus used its 720bhp Mercedes CLS-based Rocket to push the world speed record for ‘street-legal sedans’ to 227mph. The previous record of 225mph was also held by the Rocket.

Meanwhile, at an event co-hosted by Continental Tyres and Auto Bild magazine, Porsche tuner 9ff set a new world top speed record for a convertible. Driven by company owner Jan Fatthauer, 9ff’s 780bhp twin-turbo 997 (fitted with a hard-top) posted a peak speed of 236mph.Both 9ff and Brabus set their records at the Nardo test track in southern Italy.
