Meet the lighter, more powerful BMW M3 CRT, and the man behind M and its new lightweight carbon future

In June 2011 BMW unveiled the M3 CRT. Essentially an M3 GTS in four-door form, it boasts a 444bhp 4.4-litre V8 engine, a seven-speed twin-clutch gearbox and a plethora of carbon technology, some of it making its industry debut on the CRT. And it marks the beginning of an exciting period for the M Division, with a new M2 entry-level model lined up to replace the 1-series M Coupe and a replacement for the legendary M1 to rival the Audi R8.
