Audi RS3 review – design

Building on the updates shared with the standard A3, the new RS3 has an aggressive front and rear bumper treatment putting it in line with other RS models

Evo rating
  • Stunning engine, quality cabin, improved dynamics
  • Expensive, composed but cold handling means it's faster than it is fun

It is safe to say that the current Audi A3 has always been a premium yet subtle affair, so when its mid-life refresh came about last year Audi kept the changes to a minimum. All models receive a slightly reshaped grill with new angular headlights; these sit above newly designed bumpers front and rear. Like the front, the rear lights also gain new lighting graphics and there is a new roof-mounted spoiler.

For the RS3, Audi Sport definitely increased the visual punch, following a similar geometric aesthetic on both the front and rear fascias as other new RS models like the RS5 and TT-RS. As mentioned previously, buyers are able to personalise their RS3 via styling packs in aluminium, black or the standard body colour.

Carry-over RS specific design touches include the dual oval rear exhaust pipes, widened front wheel arches and chunky side skirts that give the RS3 a load more presence. Compared to most rivals, the RS3 strikes the right balance between aggression and subtlety.
