Fisker convertible

Cabriolet version of Fisker Karma hybrid will be at Detroit

Fisker, the maker of the four-door Karma saloon (pictured right, in blue), is readying another wild concept for the Detroit motor show.

It's a convertible version of the Karma, called the Sunset. Not much else is known, with only this frustrating teaser shot to give a hint at what's going on. It is set to use the same plug-in hybrid powertrain of the saloon, with a 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine from GM linked up to batteries and an electric motor. It may not be world saving technology - Fisker majors on performance and style - but it gives the Karma a unique twist over rivals, and is certainly a more attractive way of going green than some hybrids.

The Karma itself isn't in production yet, with a series of concepts having done the motor show rounds in the past few months, so expect similar treatment for the Sunset. Fisker already has a past of coupes and convertibles with the Latigo and Tramonto, which are essentially a rebodied BMW 6-series and Mercedes-Benz SL. Tramanto is the Italian word for Sunset, providing a nice link (and a piece of interesting trivia) between the brand's two drop-tops.

Come back to evo.co.uk from January 10 for updates from the Detroit motor show and full details of the Fisker Karma Sunset.
