Ferrari announces 430 Scuderia

Lighter, more powerful Ferrari F430 to be unveiled by Schumacher

Ferrari has announced details of the much-anticipated lightweight derivative of its F430. Called the 430 Scuderia, the new model will be officially unveiled by Michael Schumacher at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

Taking its name from Ferrari's racing division, the Scuderia weighs 100kg less than the standard F430, meaning it should tip the scales at 1335kg ‘wet’ (i.e. with fluids). With its normally aspirated 4308cc V8 now putting out 503bhp at 8500rpm (up 20bhp on the standard car, which achieves its peak power at the same revs), the result will be a power-to-weight figure of 383bhp per ton – that’s 10bhp per ton up on Lamborghini’s Gallardo Superleggera and 14 higher than Porsche’s recently announced 911 GT2.

Also new for the Scuderia is the latest ‘Superfast’ software for the F1 paddle-shift gearbox, cutting gearchange times to a mere 60 milliseconds, and a new traction control system that integrates the 430’s E-diff electronic differential with the F1-Trac traction and stability control system.

There’s no word as yet on prices, nor have any performance figures been revealed, but expect more news ahead of the 430 Scuderia’s first public appearance at Frankfurt on September 11.
