Mercedes S-Class Coupe specs, prices and pictures

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the S-Class Coupe ahead of its launch at the Geneva motor show. Specs, prices and pictures here

Mercedes has released the first images of the production-ready S-Class coupe, ahead of the car’s public debut at the Geneva motor show next month. The car will replace the outgoing CL-Class as Mercedes’ flagship Coupe model.

So far Mercedes has confirmed a single engine, the 448bhp 4.6-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, for the S500 Coupe. When equipped with Mercedes’ new Magic Body Control system, the Coupe has a new party trick, now allowing the car to lean into a corner. Much like a tilting train, the system is said to increase comfort levels in the cabin while cornering at speed.

Although the styling has not changed much from the concept car that was revealed last year, the new car looks significantly closer to production, with a proper interior and door mirrors. Mercedes has also announced new optional headlights with 47 Swarovski crystals for the DRL and front indicators.

The interior looks to be finished to an even higher standard than the saloon. Mercedes says that it's highly customisable, with a huge choice of colour, trim and optional extras. There is an optional touchpad just ahead of the central armrest, which allows full gesture control of the central media system. A panoramic glass roof is also said to give the interior a much more ‘airy’ feel when it is open, with the ability to be tinted at the touch of a button. In line with the car’s slightly more sporting appearance, a smaller more performance-oriented steering wheel is also fitted.

Wheel sizes range from 18 to 20-inch, filling wide wheel arches appropriately. The curvaceous and sleek styling is a significant change from the current CL, with a much more muscular appearance. UK prices have yet to be confirmed, but the S500 Coupe is expected to start at around £100k when it goes on sale in the UK towards the end of the year.
