Mitsubishi Evo X FQ330 SST

Mitsubishi equips mid-range Lancer Evolution X with twin-clutch SST transmission

Mitsubishi’s mid-range Evo X can now be had with the firm’s twin-clutch SST gearbox.

The FQ330 comes with the 324bhp, 322lb ft version of the Lancer Evolution’s turbocharged 2-litre four-pot and mated to the six-speed Sports Shift Transmission it does the 0-62mph sprint in 4.4sec and has a limited 155mph top speed.

The transmission gets the inevitable steering column mounted paddles (made out of magnesium, no less) and like most twin-clutch ‘boxes, has one clutch to deal with odd gears (1st, 3rd, 5th) and one for the evens (2nd, 4th, 6th), with each clutch loaded ready to make shifts as quick as possible. It comes equipped with Normal, Sport and Super Sport modes.

The FQ330 SST will set you back £35,999; that’s a £1K premium over a five-speed manual FQ 330 GSR, and three grand more than the 290bhp FQ300 SST.

Despite the electrickery it boasts, we found it hard to warm to the transmission when we ran an SST-equipped Evo X on the evo Fast Fleet. Read about our experiences here.
